About the Bournemouth Pagan Society

The Bournemouth Pagan Society was formed in 2002 by Seth after he moved to Bournemouth to read law at Bournemouth University. It became clear to him that it was very difficult to meet like minded Pagans to socialise with and learn from and so set up a small on-line Yahoo group called Bournemouth Pagan Society.

After setting up the group Seth went on-line to Pagan networking sites and invited everyone he could find to join, the first of these being his now-Fiancee Isis who he met via the BPS in its first few months. The group gained in popularity and had reached around 8 (yes 8!!) members by the end of the year and the first BPS Moot was launched at the Gander on the Green in Bournemouth on a Wednesday night. A record 3 members attended regularly and after 2 years the moots were abandoned in favour of an on-line community.

Around 2005, and following some hard work, the BPS experienced a renaissance and ultimately the moots were re-established shortly afterwards. Following several successful years of moots at what was now the Metropole in Bournemouth the BPS Breakfast moot was launched at the Boscanova Cafe in Boscombe and proved to be an instant hit (not to mention a massive disruption to the table layout of the cafe). The BPS meets at the Boscanova Cafe in Boscombe at 10:30 on the third Sunday of every month.

Sadly the Metropole closed down in 2009. The BPS went on the hunt for a new home for its pub moot and now meets once a month at the Goat and Tricycle in Bournemouth.

The Conference of Magic is a long term dream for the BPS and its debut represents a new challenge for the team and a new opportunity to bring Pagans together and offer them the chance to learn something new and thus fulfill the original purpose of the BPS when it was formed in 2002.
