Speakers and their talks from 2010
Anna
Franklin: Title TBC
Kim Huggens: The Roman Cult of Mithras: Symbolism, Sources of Syncretism, and the
Stars.
The Roman soldier-saviour God Mithras has long fascinated scholars, philosophers, and
magicians. His cult spread across a vast geographical area and time period, and the hints from ancient writings
about the secret rituals and initiations reveal fascinating insights and possible links with modern astrology, alchemy, and
magic. This talk will examine the rituals and iconography of the Roman Empire's most powerful mystery cult, and draw
links between later theurgy and magical practices, as well as philosophy and cosmology that found its way into modern
Paganism.
